Meet the Director

Gaby Martinez del Rio

Director, Castle Hills Campus

Gaby was born in Mexico City, where she learned Spanish, English, and French in a trilingual school. She was inspired by her mother’s lifelong career in education and she, too, developed a passion for teaching. After moving to the U.S., Gaby earned a bachelor’s degree from Texas Woman’s University in bilingual education.

While in college, Gaby began teaching at Spanish Schoolhouse Coppell. In partnership with her mother, she opened the first SSH franchise in 2008. After 10 years of teaching, she took on the leadership of the school as Director. Gaby enjoys teaching so much that she still teaches the After-School classes and serves as the After School trainer for all SSH schools.

Gaby believes that the most important gift she can give each student is a sense of love and acceptance. When students feel this love, their potential becomes limitless! She is very proud of her teachers who help fulfill this mission and create a feeling of family in her school. Gaby continues to study and learn about early childhood education and hopes to open additional schools in the future.

Q & A with Gaby

What are your goals as the leader of the school?

By sharing my passion for education and for my native language, I hope to inspire my teachers, staff, students and families.  My goal is that the educational and cultural journey at SSH will leave an impression on them that lasts a lifetime.  As they think back about Periquito Azul and their time at SSH, I hope they smile and feel a warm abrazo (hug).

What benefits does a language immersion preschool offer versus a “typical” preschool?

Countless studies show the cognitive advantages that come from immersion learning.  Bilingual children also have better executive function skills later in life.  Our students get to see, hear, taste, and experience different cultures as well.  Our teachers are from many countries, and students get to learn about each of them, making them appreciate diversity and helping them adapt more easily to new environments.

What is your favorite event of the school year and why?

My favorite events of the school year are the shows!! Both the Christmas and End of the School Year shows are special! Parents get to watch their little ones dance, speak Spanish, have fun with their classmates and teachers. But most of all, you can feel ALL the love of the SSH family during the show. It makes me emotional and proud every year!!!
